23 July 2013
Dear Second Year students,
I hope that you are comfortable in college / hostel.
I am convinced that the decision to start your classes from 1 July 2013 was a wise one. It has not only given us ample time to revise some important concepts of first year but also allowed us to organize the 3-day workshop on “Basic Electronics and Mechatronics” for you and to showcase your projects to the children of nearby schools. The response to workshop has been impressive and everyone is satisfied with the work done by you.
The workshop was merely a ‘spark’ that was provided to you to start using your powerful brain. You are now expected to convert the spark and learning from the overall workshop in bringing out a larger scale functional product at a cost that is affordable. You are welcome to form a small interdisciplinary team (with support from some faculty and staff) of students and start ‘thinking’.
I am confident that you are attending your theory and laboratory classes daily without any excuse. Please do not think / worry about your first year result. That is NOT in your control any more. Whatever you had to do, you did in the first year and its examinations. Now is the time to focus on Second year classes.
The ONLY ‘Mantra’ for guaranteed success in forthcoming Internal Assessment – I and then the final examination is “daily study and lot of practice” (reading, writing, and speaking) of all the subjects; We need not emphasize this to you as we told you about it last year repeatedly.
Those of you who have already started regular study, I am certain they will pass not only SE but also FE because they have realized their responsibility.
Those of you who have NOT yet started regular studies, please do not waste any more time otherwise you will regret later ONE MORE TIME;
I am informed that some of you have registered your laptop with our IT service incharge, and they have requested for wi-fi access; It is encouraging to know that our students are tech-savvy. However, other students who do not have a laptop at present should NOT have any inferiority complex. In due course they will also have one laptop. In the meantime they will have to prove themselves in academics by doing well in studies.
A word of caution for students who own a laptop and are using it in their room. A laptop cannot be a substitute/replacement for self-study and hard work that are essential in Engineering degree programmes. If the laptop is misused then a year loss is the least that can be expected. So please use it for acquiring constructive and productive knowledge and to gain an edge over others in a positive sense.
I also urge you NOT to become addicted to mobile phone. You have experienced its ill effects last year. If you are not able to concentrate on studies because of mobile phone or any other avoidable distraction then please take corrective action immediately before it is too late.
Wishing you all the very best.
